Job Description

Role Overview:

Join KPMG’s Financial Services Consulting (Fintech & Ventures) practice in Singapore as a Payments & Digital Assets Consultant. In this role, you will advise regulators, banks and fintechs on the rapidly evolving payments ecosystem and digital asset initiatives, helping them design innovative solutions in areas like payment platforms, digital currencies, and blockchain while aligning operating models with strategic goals. You’ll work directly with clients on projects spanning payment rails, e-wallets, cards, cross-border payments, and cryptocurrency/tokenization, ensuring solutions are secure, regulatorily compliant, and add business value. As a consultant, you will focus on delivering high-quality analyses and project contributions. For Managers, responsibilities include leading project workstreams and client relationships, guiding teams to successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consulting Delivery: Lead and contribute to payments modernization and digital asset strategy projects for banks and fintech clients. This includes assessing current payment processes and designing target operating models to enhance efficiency and customer experience in payments (e.g. real-time payments, digital wallets, cross-border remittances) and digital asset adoption (e.g. blockchain use-cases, crypto custody solutions)

  • Strategy & Advisory: Provide strategic advice on payment innovations and digital assets. Analyze emerging trends (such as CBDCs, stablecoins, DeFi) and identify opportunities for clients to leverage new payment technologies and digital asset offerings for competitive advantage. Develop roadmaps for integrating digital assets into traditional financial services, balancing innovation with risk management and regulatory requirements

  • Client Solutions & Thought Leadership: Collaborate with senior KPMG colleagues and alliance partners to craft tailored solutions – for example, defining business models for new payment/digital asset initiatives and developing business cases for investment in new payment platforms or tokenization opportunities. Prepare and deliver client presentations, proposals, and workshops to drive buy-in for recommended solutions

  • Regulatory & Risk Considerations: Advise clients on operational and regulatory implications of payment and digital asset strategies. This may involve interpreting regulations (e.g. MAS Payment Services Act, AML/KYC standards for digital assets) and ensuring strategies conform to relevant compliance requirements. For Managers, responsibilities include overseeing risk assessments for digital asset adoption and payment system changes, and guiding clients on controls (e.g. digital asset custody, wallet security, payment fraud prevention)

  • Project & Team Management: At Manager level, oversee end-to-end project delivery, including scoping engagements, managing project timelines and budgets, and ensuring quality deliverables. Manage and mentor junior team members, fostering their development in payments and digital assets expertise. As a Senior Associate, manage individual workstream tasks such as market research, data analysis, and creation of client-ready reports, under the guidance of project leaders

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Industry & Domain Expertise: 5–8+ years of professional experience in payments, financial services, fintech or management consulting, with substantial exposure to payment systems or digital assets. Hands-on experience in payment operations or digital asset initiatives (e.g. implementing payment platforms, working with blockchain/crypto solutions) is strongly preferred

  • Consulting & Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex business and technology problems and develop actionable recommendations for improvement. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills are essential, along with proficiency in structuring data-driven insights to support recommendations. Prior consulting experience is an advantage

  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of payment processing and infrastructure (such as card networks, payment gateways, real-time/faster payments, SWIFT, etc.) and of digital asset technologies (basics of blockchain, cryptocurrency, tokenization, custody solutions). Familiarity with emerging trends in payments and fintech, like open banking, embedded finance, stablecoins, decentralized finance (DeFi), etc., will be beneficial

  • Regulatory Awareness: Awareness of financial regulations and industry standards related to payments (e.g. MAS regulations on payment services) and digital assets (e.g. digital payment token guidelines, AML/CFT for crypto). Ability to understand how regulatory changes impact client strategies

  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to articulate complex concepts in clear business language for senior stakeholders. Experience engaging effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership. Strong presentation and report-writing skills to produce deliverables of consulting quality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum requirement). An MBA or relevant Master’s degree is highly regarded, especially with focus on finance, fintech, or strategy

  • Professional Credentials: Relevant certifications (e.g. CFA, FRM, or blockchain/fintech-related certifications) are a plus

  • Leadership & Growth Mindset: Demonstrated ability to take initiative and lead in a team setting. For Manager candidates, prior experience in leading consulting teams or complex projects is desired. Senior Associate candidates should show readiness to grow into managing responsibilities over time
